Ever have one of those days when you can’t figure out how to get motivated? A day where getting out of bed is horribly difficult? You had one today? And yesterday? And the day before? Wow! You are not alone. So did I! You know, we all have difficulty sometimes getting our butt in gear and getting ‘er done. Why is that?
First and foremost nobody likes to be told what to do. Everyone has problems with the “get motivated” thing sometimes. As soon as someone is barking orders, we push back. It’s human nature. But in this case there is no one barking orders right? Wrong! You are doing the barking. Your brain is trying to tell your body to get up and get going and it rebels. I’m not sure of the reason, it could be a chemical reaction to receiving the order to move but, I do know it is real.
Ever notice that you can be awake and ready to get up, just waiting for the alarm and when the alarm sounds, you feel a tightening in your tummy and a negative reaction. I do! It is hard ot get motivated.
Part and parcel with all this is the feeling, “What’s it all about Alfie?” You know you are supposed to call prospects, write a blog post, make a video, post a status update but the last 10 prospects you called either didn’t answer the phone or said “no”. The last blog didn’t produce a single lead the last video was terrible. You feel frustrated, like a failure, and worse than that, the rent is due, there are bills to pay and the checking account is dry. You want to scream, “Help!” But no one is listening.
Sometimes it is hard to get motivated. The reality is everyone who has reached any level of success in home business (or really any business for that matter) has gone through this level of anxiety. You gotta fail your way to success. “Yes is the destination, no is how you get there” is the sub title of the awesome book by Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz, “Go For No”.
[mlsp-cta campaign=”sixfigurebizbuilder” layout=”standard” align=”left”]This is where having a strong “Why” and an even a stronger vision will help you get motivated. It is often said that the pain pushes you until your vision pulls you. What is your vision? “Without vision, the people perish”, (Proverbs 29:18). So again, what is your vision?
Do you have a picture that you carry with you (in your mind) of what your life will be like in say 3 to 5 years? Do you see your life as substantially different than it is today? If not, you will struggle with fear and temptation. The fear is fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear that you are not enough. The second is temptation. This is the overwhelming belief that sweeps over you and says, “just stay in bed, I will never succeed anyhow, why bother”?
If on the other hand you have a compelling vision for what your future is like, if you can believe it and see it, you will spring out of bed and charge on because you know where you are going and what you must do to get there. Having a compelling vision will help you get motivated.
