Four Essential Daily Prospecting Tips on Social media

prospecting tipsWould you like some prospecting tips to improve your exposure on social media?  Do you want to market your business using social media?  Many do.  The rub is, many do it wrong.  Take Facebook for example.  There are many people who are spamming their links on Facebook.  Like throwing spaghetti against a wall and hoping some sticks.  Fortunately, many spammers are in spam groups so they are all spamming each other.  Like the prospectors of old, many climbed the mountain, few returned with any value.  But, what about the serious marketer?  Can you find your customers on social media?  More importantly, can you attract customers using social media? Let me provide some prospecting tips to help.

The Beauty of Social Media

Social Media provides a seething pool of potential clients.   The leading social networks are usually available in multiple languages and enable users to connect with friends or people across geographical, political or economic borders. Approximately 2 billion internet users are using social networks and these figures are still expected to grow as mobile device usage and mobile social networks increasingly gain traction.

For example almost 20% of the earth’s population is on Facebook.  With over  1.71 billion active monthly users, Facebook is too big to ignore.  Your customer is there someplace.  Just gotta find him or her.  That’s what these prospecting tips are intended to accomplish.

Other Social Media Sites present equally compelling numbers. Instagram for example has 500 million active monthly users, while Twitter boasts over 300 million.

The simple premise of Attraction Marketing is to attract your customers to you.  And just how do you do that you ask?  With value, that’s how.  You attract potential clients by providing massive value, confirming your statue as a “go to “ person in your field, then, and only then asking for their business.

There are many strategies for interacting with Social Media.  I was on a training call the other day with Angel Balichowski, the Organic Mommy, and this list is her recommended daily prospecting tips for social media.

There are four simple things everyone can do daily on line that will build a business and attract potential clients.

  1. Post on Facebook 3x per day (or any other social platform).

These posts can and should be a combination of Lifestyle, inspirational, excitement (business, product, life, etc), gratitude posts and story posts. It’s important to include a glimpse into your lifestyle.  After all, it is often said that people do business with people, not with companies.

Your clients want a glimpse into the person they are thinking of doing business with.  In other words, they want to know a little about you as a person.

  1. Reach out to at least two friends or family members every day and ask how they are with no agenda.

The no agenda part is critical.  Don’t call up your friends and ask them to join your business.  Call them up and ask them how they are doing.  Tell them you have been thinking about them and just chat a little bit.  Now if you haven’t connected in years they might think you are a bit strange, that’s ok.

Make it be more about them than about you.  Be patient.  If they get around to asking you what you are doing, you can take the opportunity to give them a glimpse and wait and see if they ask for more.  Don’t be in a hurry! Practice patience!

  1. Message people who like your posts and say thank you and ask how they are doing.

If anyone comments or likes one of your posts, do not miss this opportunity to interact.  Build relationships, get to know people, be a friend and sooner or later, the money will flow.

  1. Interact inside groups daily (2 in the AM, 2 in the PM, 1 in evening as one example) consistently in the same groups

Well, you have joined a few groups haven’t you?  Join groups that reflect your interests.  So for example, I am a Master Scuba Diver so I might join Scuba diving groups.  That way I have something to talk about and share.

The Bottom Line

Social media is meant to be social.  Treat it that way, build relationships, make friends provide value and you will be able to build a thriving business.  Yes it takes time, but it really is the only way that works.
