Gratitude – The Foundational Skill
Gratitude is the foundational skill for achieving happiness in your life and without it, your life will not be pleasant. As Eckart Tolle says, “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”
The law of attraction is always working. Many people, however struggle to get what they want. Perhaps they don’t realize that if they focus on what they don’t want, they will attract more of what they don’t want into their lives.
There are really only two reasons for this struggle:
- They focus on fear of getting more of what they don’t want
- They do not appreciate what they already have
Let’s dissect these two concepts.
Do Not Focus on fear
The first one, people tend to focus on fear of getting more of what they don’t want derives from the power of fear as an emotion. It is addictive. When the emotional response of fear courses through our body it causes chemicals to be released that result in a physical reaction. Tightening of the stomach muscles, shortness of breath and shallow breathing are a few. It functions like a positive feedback system. The more your feel fear, the more fear you feel. One reason is shallow breathing which deprives the brain of oxygen and spins the body into a state of near suffocation. The brain is shutting down and the emotions are in control. As we sink deeper into fear, the law of attraction spins up and send us more of the thing we fear the most and the cycle continues
Do Appreciate What You have
The second reason is people do not appreciate what they already have. In order for the Law Of Attraction to bring you more of what you want, you must appreciate what you already have. Source, infinite energy, God, call it what you will as the name is immaterial, does not respond to lack. It only responds to positive emotion. You cannot focus on what you do not have and expect more of what you do have, it is really that simple.
Source is abundance, it does not understand lack. It cannot create less of something, it only creates more of something. Is this making sense? So if your focus is on something you don’t have, source cannot create less of what you don’t have. Source can only create more of what you don’t have, more lack.
Fear breeds fear
If you are focused on fear, source will send more fear your way, guaranteed. The way out of this dilemma is to practice gratitude every day. Wake up and be grateful for what you do have. It is said the brain can only process one thought at a time. Make that thought be gratitude.
Start your day by being thankful you are awake to enjoy another fabulous day. Understand that today 150,000 of your fellow humans will not have that privilege. Ask how can I make this day the best day of my life? “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” Robert Brault
